Dad's Birthday turned into an absolutely amazing day.
We had anchored overnight next to a deserted island - part of the Apataki Atol. Dad opened his birthday presents and particularly liked an engraved tankard from his older sister Connie. With no Lobster in the lobster pot over night we set sail to visit the infamous Assam Laau and his Pearl Farm (when in Rome...). We had intended to purchase some fresh eggs and stay for only an hour but with Dad sporting his '70 Today' badge - Assam (pictured), his Wife Nini and Son Alfred insisted that we should stay for a grand evening celebration.
Assam and his family live on a part of the Atol that is very remote. Just him, his wife and son, the farm workers (3-5) and one Couple described as their only neighbours. The Son was dispatched to source fresh chicken, the farm workers for fresh clams, Nini for fresh Coconuts and we were taken fishing! Another Sailing boat 'Intiaq' with a lovely french couple Karin and Jean Francois had become local friends and offered to make a Birthday Cake......
